Musculoskeletal Screening

This involves a specific, detailed assessment of the flexibility and control of the muscles, joints and nerves specific to your sport. This musculoskeletal profile may be used to develop programs to prevent overuse injuries, and improve performance.

  • Screening is used to identify physical attributes and a musculoskeletal profile of an athlete that may make them prone to injury, overuse problems or poor performance.
  • All joints throughout the body require optimum muscle balance and control for them to function efficiently.
  • Athletes place exceptional stress on their muscle, joint and nerve systems that can result in them becoming unbalanced, tight or weak.
  • Screening can be used pre-season, mid-season or post-season to help identify these problem areas.

The athlete is assessed through all areas of the muscular, joint and nerve systems.
  1. Alignment and posture
  2. Flexibility of muscular, connective tissue /fascial and nerve systems
  3. Joint hypermobility/ hypomobility
  4. Control and endurance of 'core' stability muscles
  • On completion of the assessment a list of imbalance or weaknesses is provided to both the athlete and coach.
  • Specific exercise programs for 'core' stability and flexibility are established for each individual athlete to reduce any risks and correct these problems.
THE GOALS OF MUSCULOSKELETAL SCREENING ARE
INJURY PREVENTION AND PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT
